Personal Comment
„I had my doubts if this event could really happen, I mean like, to have a storm so massive and brutal it would affect most of Northern Europe, what are the chances? But I have to say this one hit the jackpot. In Denmark we sailed in 5-6 meter waves, snow, winds gusting up to 70 knots and a thermometer reading only 2 degrees celcius. It was mind blowing.
One of the spots we sailed was Vorupør, the waves were massive,- at least up to 5-6 meters and the shorebreak was just a gnarly, grinding monster throwing endless mountains of water at beach. I was lucky to make it out and managed to stay out for almost an hour, before I got waved back to the beach so we could start using the headcam equipment. I tried to get back out for over 30 minutes, but it was impossible. Every time I thought there was a hole in the sets, another massive shorey would come and take me out, rip the equipment from my hands and in the end spit me back out on the beach. One time I got drilled so bad, I hit the bottom pretty hard and got pinned underneath the sail. After that we moved spot again.
It was definetely some of the most hardcore conditions I have ever experienced. I have been out in bigger waves, but not at this kind of temperature and such strong wind.
Sometimes the wind would be so strong, that I would get slammed with my totally flat 3,3. It was actually unsailable.
Going out through the waves in Vorupør and Bunkers was definetely a radical experience, there were mountains of water moving around, the people at the beach said that sometimes I would disappear behind the waves for several seconds.
Before the event I thought to myself, that it would not make much difference if I was in the event or not, I would go and sail anyway. But to be honest, if it hadn´t been for the RBSC, I would not have gone out.
I am stoked to have been part of the Red Bull Storm Chase, and I would like to thank everybody involved in organizing and putting the event together and those who voted for me. Over and out.“
