Event - FAQ

Is the Red Bull Storm Chase a competition?
No! It is the pure challenge of man vs. nature, no judging, no prices.
Will there be one Storm in all countries?
Yes! We try to select a storm that has a huge potential for all countries. Anyway, it won’t be blowing equally in all nations. Conditions will differ a lot and a 11bft low in Ireland might only have 8bft in Germany east.
How strong will the storm be blowing – when does the event start?
We will not start the event before 10bft are reached. Riders and teams will get a warning a couple of days in advance but the kick-off will be pretty spontaneous…
Who selects the storm?
We do! In close cooperation with weather services we will do our best to select a real classic one!
Will all riders meet and windsurf the storm together?
No! There will be one storm moving from the west to the east. 1 rider per country will face this storm alone in his country on the spot he selects on that one day when the storm strikes.
Where will the riders actually windsurf?
Every rider can select the spot in his country or region that is optimal for the conditions. The decision can be spontaneous on the day of the storm.
What happens if I get voted?
You will get a camera team and a photographer attending you on the day of the storm, shooting your action for DVD and other media use. By the end of august you will receive the official Storm Chaser kit including organisational details and some special equipment.
What happens if I am not available on the day of the storm?
The rider scoring the second most votes will move up and replace you.
Why should I register as an amateur?
Even if chances to get voted are slim – we would just love to see how big the stormchaser community out there really is. Windsurfing is more than what we generally read and see, let’s shout it out!
Can I get on the DVD if I am not voted or if my country is not part of the event?
Yes! We cannot provide a team to feature your action, but if what you do is worth to show, you can contact us and send your footage.
Can I register as a Kitesurfer?
Uuuuhhh – difficult one! Well, we have the first kiter-registration for Germany east and we want to leave it up to you. Vote them out or vote them in!
