Equipment - Testing the Suunto t6
![]()
German Storm Chaser Klaas Voget has tested the Suunto t6 including the prototype of the GPS Pod!
When the storm comes the heart frequence is rising! But only the Storm Chasers themselves will know exactly how much! We capture this data to include it in the film. One Storm Chaser per country will get one t6 and record his body parameters while riding the storm. Klaas Voget was the first to test the equipment:
So many features in such a small wristop watch?
“It surprised me, it´s suitable not just for training because it doesn´s look showy at all. I also found out about the graphical barometer with memory and a precise altimeter!”
Any problems in the water?
“I was sceptical if the digital transmission works in the water. I put on the smartbelt which is supposed to guarantee perfect transmission. It worked despite the wetsuit! As a backup the smartbelt stores all data directly, so no transmission is needed. I could read my heart frequence while I shot down the waves. And you can choose the parameters which show up simultaneously on your display, I could read heart frequence, speed and distance at a glance”.
How about the data analysis?
“The analysis on the PC was impressive, it even showed how often I breathed and how many calories and oxygen I used. Great for training! I wonder how many heartbeats we will have in total when the Storm Chase is on fire!”
Additional information:
The Suunto t6 including the Training Manager Software is much more than just a heart rate monitor. It´s a professional tool for training assessment and measures the time between two heartbeats in milliseconds and 7 bodyfunctions result from this measurement in near laboratory accuracy, e.g. respiration rate, oxygen-calorie consumption and trainingseffect. In combination with the Suunto GPS POD speed and distance can be analysed with these parameters. To guarantee a perfect transmission in the water, Suunto supplies a new developed Smartbelt to the Storm Chasers which saves 100 hours heart rate data.
