One storm - 9 countries - 22 riders chasing it
22 fearless windsurfers plus two guest stars sent out to Scotland by our partner Quatro were facing the ultimate challenge on their local spots. The idea was to watch out for the biggest storm this autumn and to have two windsurfers in each country ready to go out any time. On the day it striked each rider had to face the most radical conditions alone, on his homespot. The Red Bull Storm Chase was no competition, it was the pure challenge of man vs nature. The outcome of this happening will be released on DVD by the end of this year.
The cool thing was: everybody had the chance to be part of it. Each windsurfer, whether pro or amateur, could apply online for a ticket. By Online voting people from all over the world decided who should represent the country in the Red Bull Storm Chase and who should be featured on the Storm Chase DVD . The first voting round was open for two weeks from middle of July. The 5 most wanted surfers advanced to the final voting elimination and by the middle of august the 22 riders were officially announced, two weeks before the waiting period started. During the waiting period the storm indicator kept everybody posted on the alert status. Thanks to the large time window the kick-off was given just when conditions were perfect.
When it was show time, each sailor -team was accompanied by a stills photographer and a camera team. By the end of the year you can experience the biggest storm of the year reaching up to 156 Km/h chased by 22+2 riders on one spectacular DVD.
The Red Bull Storm Chase stands for the most radical conditions, for extreme wavesailing on the edge of what’s possible and for a unique and dangerous adventure. Oct. 31st and Nov. 1st 2006 mother nature taught us a lesson about windsurfing at the limit!
